Университет Heriot Watt находится в Эдинбурге. Вуз имеет довольно длительную и богатую историю и традиционно занимает лидирующие позиции в области технических наук, компьютерных технологий и бизнеса.
Университет создан в 1821 году, он стал первым чисто техническим вузом страны. Университет носит имена двух людей - известного финансиста и филантропа Джорджа Хериота и изобретателя-инженера Джеймса Уатта (в честь которого названа единица измерения мощности - ватт).
В 1970 годах на базе Heriot Watt University был создан один из первых технических парков в Европе.
На данный момент в вузе обучается более 30 000 студентов. Созданный в 1854 году клуб выпускников является старейшим в Великобритании!
Кампусы Heriot Watt University:
- Edinburgh Campus. Располагается в пригороде Эдинбурга и занимает территорию в 380 акров. Из центра Эдинбурга сюда ходит много рейсовых автобусов, интервал движения - каждые 15 минут. Особенно активные студенты пользуются велосипедами для передвижения из кампуса до Эдинбурга. Здесь обучается около десяти с половиной тысяч студентов. На кампусе открыт Национальный Спортивный центр Ориам, в постройку которого было инвестировано 33 миллиона фунтов.
- Scottish Borders Campus. Расположен в Галашилсе. На кампусе базируется Школа Текстиля и Дизайна. Кампус стильно оформлен, тут есть своя галерея, музей, библиотека. Резиденция кампуса также впечатляет своим дизайном, она была открыта в 2012 году и исполнена в стиле модерн. Внутри просторные зоны для отдыха, удобные комнаты и полностью оснащенные кухни.
- Orkney Campus. Это самый отдаленный кампус вуза. Здесь находится Международный Центр Технологий, являющийся частью Школы энергетики и геологии. Кампус вуза расположен прямо у залива Hamnavoe. Именно здесь проводятся главные исследования в области геологии и добычи полезных ископаемых.
